October 2026 Newsletter

10/25/2026

We here at Passenger Recovery are consistently making strides to provide our local community with events, opportunities and a variety of options for safe and supportive events and activities for all participants in recovery as well as exploring recovery options. It is important to us that we continue to look for ways to connect our community with these opportunities. In September, we offered our local communities both in Hamtramck and Downriver with a firsthand look at what sobriety can look like. Multiple pathways are available to all who are seeking recovery. Passenger offers a wide variety of events, workshops and meetings that cover creativity, spirituality, connection and beyond.

On September 20, we held our first ever Recovery and Resilience festival. The event was full of celebration for our recovery community and brought together Recovery Community Organizations, Vendors and Artists from around Metro Detroit and beyond to showcase the multiple pathways to recovery we provide as well as bring people together. We offered members of the community the opportunity to participate in fun artistic writing and painting workshops and closed meetings. They were able to hear from others in recovery as well as check out incredible music from various local bands and acoustic acts. At the end of the evening, Laurence “Lol” Tolhurst gave the keynote speech. It was full of wisdom and experience from a musician who has led a successful world renowned career as the founding drummer for The Cure and is now using his influence to help save lives through talks and authoring two books rooted in recovery. We were pleasantly surprised by the positive reactions and are looking forward to next year’s event.

On September 30, we officially launched our Passenger Recovery Downriver location in Wyandotte. Our team worked diligently to curate the space, think of which meetings would work best and really gave a lot of time into helping get things off the ground. We are so thankful to Dan and Sunshine for all of the getting things going.

On September 26, Passenger Radio also hosted it’s first ever musical event. It was an up close, intimate experience with local music acts Brian Blair, Phased Out and Mrkt. They gave us stunning performances that we will not forget anytime soon. Coming up this month, Passenger Radio will also be launching Passenger Live Sessions with host Zoe Lask. We had the opportunity to get to know Zoe a little more for this months newsletter. Her Q&A is further down the newsletter. Check it out!

This weekend, Passenger will participate in the Hamtramck Neighborhood Arts Festival on Saturday, October 3. Stop by and say hello to our team. HNAF will not affect our meeting schedule.

At the end of the month we will host a Sober Karaoke event at the Sanctuary. An Ofrenda will be put up at our Wyandotte location for all to leave an offering, a Dog Walking event will take place, and other events are planned. Scroll down for more information.

Passenger Recovery Report – The First Three Quarters

Hamtramck Neighborhood Arts Festival this Saturday, October 3rd, 2026.

The Hamtramck Neighborhood Arts Festival (HNAF) highlights Hamtramck, Michigan, a creative, dense city of 2 square miles, and the artists and musicians who call it home. It’s a welcoming community that breeds incredible diversity and boundless creativity. It’s a community-organized festival that allows anyone in the city and the surrounding neighborhood to contribute to or host an event.

The HNAF embraces the idea that art is for everyone – all are welcome to participate, and all are welcome to tour the artists’ workspaces and attend the day (and night) long events. Passenger Recovery will be the central hub, stop by for information, maps, and just to say hello!

Q: What does music give you outside of entertainment?
A: I feel a great sense of comfort when I’m listening to music. It is something that is always there for me no matter what kind of mood I’m in, always helping me get through the day. I’m listening to music almost from the moment I wake up till I go to bed.
